We already have the 5th edition of the PVO series of soft tissue and bone tumors “WHO classification of Tumors of Soft Tissue and Bone”, published on March 30, 2020.This series (also known as the PVO Blue Paper) is considered the gold standard for tumor diagnosis and includes unique histopathological diagnostic techniques with digital and molecular pathology. This content is of particular interest to pathologists, oncologists, surgeons and epidemiologists who manage or study soft tissue and bone tumors. The sections cover all recognized soft tissue and bone tumors as well as genetic tumor syndromes.Since the previous edition (2013), changes have taken place based on the latest molecular and genetic information, and this is affecting clinical practice.

Also this year on February 12, we will be open for the shadow day. The professions like DOCTOR-PATHOLOGIST and LABORANT of biomedicine will be able to shadow day. The shadows applying for the Laboratory profession are expected on February 12th. We will wait for the shadow day of the medical pathologist at 11:00. We will not be able to accommodate all the interested, but if interest continues, there will find a way to get to know the profession another time.

“Academic histology laboratory” Ltd. has passed accreditation procedure according to the standard LVS EN ISO 15189: 2013 “Medical laboratories. Quality and Competence Requirements ”and has received an accreditation certificate certifying the competence of the laboratory to perform histological examination of tissues in accordance with the requirements of this standard. This will be the third accreditation period.

New WHO tumor classification “Digestive system tumors” 5th edition has been released.In the new edition, each tumor type is classified according to location, category, as well as tumor type and subtype. In the book, tumors are classified from benign to malignant. Histopathology, diagnostic molecular pathology, gradation, staging, and diagnostic criteria are also described. Doctors-pathologists at the Academic Histology Laboratory Ltd already use this edition in their daily work.
From September 8 to 12, our doctors I. Liepniece-Karel and S. Isajev participated in the 30th European Congress of Pathology, held in Bilbao, Spain, where they presented the “Histochemical Development, Validation and Implementation of a Dyeing Method for Subtyping Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia for Work on Cancer Risk Stratification ”- Determining Subtype 3 of Intestinal Metaplasia in Evaluating Risk Stratification of Gastric Tumor (The value of the assessment of type III intestinal metaplasia for the risk stratification of the gastric cancer”).
During the congress, the doctors got acquainted with news in various pathology fields - gynecological and mammary pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, etc., also attended an exhibition on the latest pathology technologies (equipment, reagents), as well as current study and scientific literature in the field. During the congress, contacts were established with new potential partners from abroad, as well as future cooperation opportunities with existing foreign pathologists (Prof. F. Carneiro, Prof. W. Timens, etc.) were discussed.
